Radiator (set up)

If you have never really paid much attention to the radiators fitted in your home, then it will be handy for you to know just what type of valves are on them. Richmond Plumbers can fit all types of radiator

Now, two different types of valves are fitted to a radiator of your CH system. A valve to open up and close down the actual volume of water that is allowed to pass through the radiator is the first. This type of valve could also be called be a TRV, better known as a thermostatic radiator valve. Whoever installed a central heating system in the past, usually decided whether a manual or TRV was fitted to the radiators. Now because of new building regulatory stipulations, TRVs must be fitted. Manual valves are only allowed on a radiator in a room where a thermostat has been fitted. *A TRV shuts off the water supply to the radiator completely when the desired temperature in the room is reached.

Another valve called a radiator lock-shield valve is fitted on the opposite side to the TRV, but is purposely designed to be slightly more difficult to adjust. Its job is different again as it controls the amount of water that flows through the radiator. Its construction is the same is the same as a manual valve and is covered with a plastic domed cap. The lock-shield valve is pre-set on installation whist balancing takes place. A Richmond Plumber can balance a heating system.

Balance a circuit:

This operation makes sure that each radiator in the central heating circuit work at their most efficient and heat at the same time. This happens by flow control. A lockshield valve is partly closed so that the first radiator on the heating circuit will not take all the hot water, as it is the closest, so the valve is open only half a turn, so the water has to continue along the heating circuit to the next radiator and so on keeping a balance.
