Soil and Branch Pipe Connection
Connecting a branch to a vertical soil pipe is straightforward, and may have to be done at some stage in your homes plumbing history. The recommended way is to make the connection straight into the soil stack. To make the connection itself, a T shaped branch will needs to be fitted if your pipework is large. If not a piece called a Boss can be used. Richmond Plumbers have the correct tools for all plumbing jobs.Connection:a). Begin by locating and buying a boss that can be strapped on. Make sure it is the right size for the waste pipe. The next thing will be to cut the hole in the soil stack, ready for the fit. Make the hole cut with a hole cutter. This cutter should have a drill bit fixed in the centre to give accuracy. Ensure that the circular hole cutter is the right size. A Richmond Plumber is qualified to carry out this job.b). Providing everything is in place, and with the soil pipe accessible, make sure that nobody uses the toilet until the job is complete. Allowing for any sloping, make the hole cut, as water will collect if the boss is too high. Make sure that the boss fits nice and tight at the pipe, always make sure that the mating surfaces are clean for a sound plastic join. Now apply the right solvent cement as per the manufacturers instructions. You will need to hold the fitting quite tightly and push it in, holding to allow the cement to set properly, this could be about 5minutes.Note:Some of these types of boss have an ‘O’ ring internally fitted, for the small pipe connection. Others have the need for a rubber cone to connect.
