The Heating Pump (a basic description)
The circulating pump in your central heating system is really important, so if you need to either remove and or replace it you need a guide so you will recognize it and its features. If you are not confident to remove it from your heating system, then it will definitely pay you to use the services of a professional plumbing company. Richmond Plumbers carry out all types of plumbing work. There are not many moving parts related to the pump so it is quite straightforward if things go wrong and also there is not much to see on its casing either. You will see where the electrical cable enters the motor (from the boiler). Fitted to some pumps, you will see a metal or plastic cylindrical item. Called a capacitor (smoothing) it is fitted to prevent the residual magnetic field generated by the pump motor (as it spins) from interfering with the electrical operation of other domestic electrical equipment such as a television or radio. A Richmond Plumber can fit a new pump. A dial or a screw is fitted to the casing so that the pump speed can be adjusted manually by you, or a professional, usually with a screwdriver. The pump makes no noise when it runs, however, you can feel it vibrating slightly if you touch it, and that lets you know it is running. There is a large bleed screw on top of the unit, fitted to allow the owner or a professional plumber to bleed any air out that may be in it. Circulating pumps cannot prime themselves for pumping, so it would not be able to get rid of the air until it is bled out manually. Done by loosening the screw slowly until the hissing of any air stops. Then tighten the screw again. The pump is really quite a basic design, but should be cared for as it has the job of keeping you warm.
