Which Hot Water System?
Here is a very simple guide that will help you know and understand the type of hot water system that is fitted in your home, this is important in case of a plumbing problem. Richmond Plumbers can service and repair hot water storage systems.High-pressure:When you isolate the main stop tap and this isolates both hot and cold water supplies, then, your hot water is known as a high-pressure hot water system and is delivered instantaneously or by an unvented hot water cylinder. For either delivery it means that the hot water is powered by the pressure of the cold water, so that when you turn off the mains stop you are depriving your hot water of its pressure and nothing comes out of your hot water taps.Low pressure:With the low pressure system the cold water that you use is stored up in the loft or about as high as is feasible. It is linked by a single water pipe to the hot water cylinder below and the whole system is fed down thanks to the effects of gravity. If you open your hot water tap, the cold water in the storage tank starts to run down the connecting pipe and into the base of your hot water cylinder. This pushes the hot water out through the top of the cylinder and away towards the tap. A Richmond Plumber is able to explain the differences in systems. If you turn the cold mains tap, it stops the cold water storage tank from being re-filled, although the hot water itself will not stop running until the tank has emptied. The tank itself usually holds a minimum of 114litres of water but it can be much bigger. It is not a good idea to rely on emptying the cold water storage tank every time you want to stop your hot water running.
